Anyone remembers Gentoo? ;)
I haven’t seen that attitude with HA, but for some other projects yes. It also may depend on what your attitude is when asking questions.

01·4 months agoThanks for the list! What do they communicate over? Some proprietary protocol locally over WiFi, or are there any matter/Zigbee options?

01·4 months agoAnd as for fridges I’d love if mine would report real (not just set) temperature. I’d learn about it failing last time it did, before it defrosted.

0·4 months agoIt is not critical by any means, utility of a dual-cook oven is nice, even when it’s not connected to smart home. And so doubt I should be getting any „lesson” from home appliances manufacturer, they should NOT be taking any functionality away. And I don’t believe there are many local only options (are there any you can list for this appliance type?).

0·4 months agoA lot of SmartThings devices are not using Zwave, but like ovens connect via WiFi and communicate over their cloud
I guess I’ve already answered that one. You should probably choose whatever fits you, I don’t think anyone can make any recommendations on the dumb bulbs not knowing where you are
Smart switches, dumb bulbs if you don’t need colour/temperature/brightness support. Cheapest way to go is probably Zigbee using Zigbee2MQTT or ZHA

1·8 months agoMaybe it was a Zigbee binding? Sometimes when pairing new devices I’ve noticed they’ve bound to coordinator, which resulted in similar behaviour. After I’ve cleared it in Z2M it was fine

I don’t think it’s as popular as it used to be.
