what i worry about is them having any control over it and thus in position to gain more control over everything that might depend on it should it become widely used.

at least with llm one can always get some help. not necessarily good help and maybe even be misdirected by ones own misconceptions that the llm could reinforce. But with little things like what some obscure thing that is obvious to experienced users is, or how to do something not too complicated.

But i wouldnt rely on it to troubleshoot arcane problems, did that myself and later it turned out the problem was somewhere completely different i thought and it “suggested”. I think it proposed at some point the problem could be where it actually was but i was convinced it couldnt be that and i thought i had ruled it out myself earlier. Then i noticed much later that i missed something when i tested things to rule out that particular source of problem. I guess one could still use it to get information on how to gather information yourself, that might be relevant to someone who actually knows something. And it could do some analyzing on logs and other system information files to find patterns human couldnt find without a lot of expertise.

i took a look at cosmic and it looks nice, maybe i’ll try it too at some point. How much do i need to think about stuff not working on it? I can play and run what I want on mint with steam and wine, is it the same with distros that use cosmic?

i dont understand who likes to use gnome, its just plain awful and even if you customize it there is always a chance update breaks some crucial part of your ui

gnome was horrible to use, even simplest things that make life easier were missing. fucking TRAY ICONS so you can more easily access some running programs?!

made me feel like its system for bunch of elitist that can act snooty when scrubs like me cant handle their minimalist perfection.

mine has started acting up quite badly,

-from the start the internet has cut off randomly, likely due to driver issues or hardwareissue. Fixed only by complete restart. There seems to be no pattern, only that machine spirit gets angry if i use internet too much or sometimes just because i woke it up.

-Sometimes when i start the pc it takes really long time to boot and just stays in black screen,

-there are always kind of worrying error messages on startup and shutdown, something about rdseed being broken, something about data being lost, something about a thing hogging the processor and maybe switch to hq_unbound,

-sometimes the pc just refuses to shutdown when shutdown and everything else goes offline but fans keep running.

All of this has just slowly accumulated overtime, without me doing anything that should have caused it.

Yet funnily enough, i’m STILL very much more satisfied than with windows that didnt have that much immidiate issues.

for every person who boycots there is ten who cry “i do what i want with my money”. it should be considered shameful to support corporations like these.

why would they? the telemetry, spying and bloatware is the whole idea for them. At least for regular users. We are the product and the data they harvest from us and ads they force on us is the point. And why would they care, majority of people just sticks with whatever was presented to them first. No matter how much bloat and spyware they add, majority will never care enough to do anything about it because it doenst directly affect them beyond slowing the computer down, which they think will be solved by buying a new one.
