Everything about secure boot is a mistake.

It works fine. The only partition that needs to be unencrypted on a modern hardrive is the esp/boot partition.
Been using a swap file in a luks partition for years. I hibernate very regularly.
Before gpt partitioning we were limited to 8 partitions total. It was hell. Kids these days…
It also has security issues as a feature constantly being pushed to users based on ai doing pr reviews and automatically merge and push stuff to users.

It all depends on the stimulation.
Been on arch on multiple computers for at least 15 years. Personal and work computers. It just works. Although it’s for competent users and that might be the issue most people have with it.
I’ve destroyed whole system by accidentally deleting the var folder and still recovered it without backups.
I’ve also had a computer without updates turned off for more than a year and it also still worked just fine when updating and reading some quick things on the news page.
I’ve used many ubuntus on work laptops and other distros before arch and they just would eventually break or get into a Frankstein state that there was no way out without a full clean reinstall. Never again.
Some years ago I think windows source was available to be studied in some universities? No sure how true that is and if any recent version is available. Sure would be fun if the slopmachine just ingested all of it…
And people also don’t understand the difference between a non profit managed in good will by people and a capitalist saas provider that has billions to spend in hundreds and hundreds of people to maintain an ever growing central place to host all corporate interests.
The internet is becoming ridiculous.

Welcome to the whole comedy of this guy. You cry, you feel it and it hurts.

4·4 months agoYou can just not update for weeks or months if that’s your thing. If there’s a thing arch doesn’t do is force things.
Not all shells support that.
I use fish btw.

Technology@lemmy.world•If AI takes most of our jobs, money as we know it will be over. What then?English
1·1 year agoOh no, money will keep being money. We will just never see a penny and finally be doomed to be full slaves. As intended by the system and those that designed it.

1·1 year agoI think every company in the world is telling everyone for a few months now that what matter is AI data harvesting. There’s not even a hint of it being a question. You either accept the AI overlords or get out of the internet. Our ONLY purpose it to feed the machine, anything else is irrelevant. Play along or you shall be removed.
