I think that could only be really claimed if you know what training data the LLM was trained on. That will only matter if it ends up in court though and no one seems willing to fight that fight at the moment.

I don’t mean this to be snippy but people don’t give a shit how or who wrote the code.
Most people will never know either way. If you download an app from an app store you don’t know what the code looks like.
Also software devs like to think they are clever and valuable because big tech has been pumping them up for a couple decades but the business doesn’t actually give a shit how a feature gets implemented only that it was and the customers value it.
LLMs are perfectly capable of writing correct code. The main issue with them is the pace of change which has been greatly accelerated and how it can eclipse the rate a dev can understand the change.
I know people like to claim that every thing they make is slop but that ignores that basically the entire industry is using it to varying amounts and are unlikely to stop going forward.
It’s a confirmation bias thing.

1·25 days agoIf you’ve already got a connection in your garage for your garage door opener, why not simply setup an AP in there as well so as soon as you hit your driveway you connect to the wireless?
I get wanting off site access, but consistent local access would be my main concern.

I’ve installed arch a couple times. I think it’s helpful do a few times at least so you know how things work.
Now I just use endeavoros though.
If you have things backed up well that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes but yeah there is definitely an argument to be made depending on your preference.
Or just keep back ups and reinstall the OS.
Honestly I’ve been using Linux for like 15 years and there have been times that just reinstalling which takes 45 minutes would have been the fastest and easiest solution to a problem I will likely never encounter again.
I run Arch on my personal machine and Debian on my server and honestly Debian gives me more issues.
It doesn’t like zfs and Nvidia drivers are always a fight. Debian is still good though if all you want to run is a web server forever.

2·4 months agoWindows was sold that’s true and as you say the app store came with the attempt at a mobile / tablet OS.
Windows is well into the extract phase of the product. Microsoft missed the mobile boat and fewer and fewer people are buying laptops. Grandma gets by on a tablet etc. so things are just going to get worse and worse for Windows users going forward.

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•LG’s changelog confirms its monitor app installs bloatware on Windows 11, exposing Microsoft’s long-standing problemEnglish
142·4 months agoWhat? No it’s not. The selling point of the app store is the owner of the app store gets to rent seek. Getting to control the app store is the selling point of developing an ‘OS’ for free.
You as the user are just the product.
There’s also the secondary reason which is they barely give a shit about the local office apps and want you to use 365 and the in browser versions.
I’m surprised they even offer the office suite local at all anymore.

0·6 months agoI’m of two minds on this.
In some respects people are learning new things everyday and your take is correct.
On the other hand it’s so incredibly easy to highlight some text and click search that it it shows a profound lack of curiosity and a lot of laziness.

The only thing it does is stop the stupidest low effort scrapers and forces the good ones to use a browser.
