You’re counting hw already in circulation as being added to circulation just because it changes hands. “Old hardware” is finite by definition. If it is new to circulation, we call that new hardware.

You and a lot of other people too. As people get priced out of new stuff, they too will start “mining those seams”.

Except that’s where the mining analogy breaks down. When we’re mining, we’re putting new resources into circulation, increasing supply, driving prices down. But when it comes to old hw, it’s already all in circulation, so as demand for it goes up, supply will go down, and prices will go up.

All hardware has already gotten more expensive, and the headline is that it will continue that trend. My point is that old hw won’t be an exception, it will also continue going up in price. So if you plan to grab old hw next year, you should probably just go ahead and get it now while it’s cheaper.

Can’t be bothered to click the link?

If the new stuff gets more expensive, the old stuff will too

You’re right, you have no idea what it is.

Optical or roller ball?

Right, I’m saying Dell doesn’t make displays. Generally LG makes the displays that Dell uses, but apparently they also use Samsung and AU Optronics. But even then, I believe there’s some Chinese middle-man OEM actually making the displays, and in certain countries (including the US) Dell buys those and slaps their Dell and Alienware branding on them.

It makes sense to recommend an LG/Samsung/AUO monitor, it doesn’t make sense to generally recommend all Dell or Alienware monitors. Maybe a specific product worked well for you, but you can’t make broad statements about all their monitors because the only thing they are sure to have in common is the name brand selling them.

it puts me off ever buying or recommending an Alienware monitor

Why would anyone recommend an Alienware monitor? They don’t make displays. You’re just recommending which branding the display has.

It might be, if they hadn’t already agreed to it in the windows ToS, and/or in the LG ToS.

For the record, not all agentic coding is “vibe coding”. It is possible to do real engineering with an LLM.

In the same way the advent of the compiler helped us go from high-level human-readable formal language to low-level machine-readable formal language, an LLM helps us go from high-level natural language to high-level human-readable formal language. The distinction between vibing and engineering is how much intention you have about what the tool spits out the other side.

Vibing says “all I have is an input, I don’t know what the output should be, so I’m not even going to look at it”. Engineering says “I have an intended output in my head, and I’m using whatever tool will reliably create my intention the fastest”.

They use OpenVPN for some reason. Wireguard is superior in every way. In case you set up a VPN.

Letting perfection be the enemy of the good is why we can’t have nice things.

I mean…not that curious. It’s his entire livelihood at the moment.

He switched to linux a while back. Now he’s trying to switch as much of the rest of his digital life to FOSS/non-profit stuff. He advocates for duckduckgo, firefox, paid email, graphene os, selfhosted vaultwarden, nextcloud, anything but google maps, kodi, etc.
