Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What 32-bit hardware are you still selfhosting on?English
2·2 months agoThis is more for like rating movies I’ve watched and books I’ve read, not calories or weight or anything. It’s not updating often enough for a monitor and it’s accessible from anywhere so I can pull it up on my phone at any time.

4·2 months agoAlso running some things in a pi zero w. It’s starting to get a little processing limited so I might add a second and split some things off. Pihole, stats page I wrote to help me track stuff, those sorts of things
That’s what I was thinking. I’ve barely ever understood it for deployments for large companies (even then I disagree, I think it’s added overhead just to bypass poor processes) but at home? Nah, install everything together.

Technology@beehaw.org•The Politics of Cyberdecks: Why women around the world are building their own DIY computers.
12·2 months agoTL:DR - they aren’t
This article was a lot about why people in general are choosing to build cyberdecks and chose to highlight women from that community, but I saw only the following quote for a “women specific” reason. Honestly the entire thing felt like they wrote bullet points they fed through an AI to make gendered
Building cyberdecks, many off-grid, can allow women and girls to feel safe, because it allows them to disconnect from the online spaces where abusers most often reach them.

61·2 months agoCan you switch to IPv6? My ISP NATs me on IPv4 but I’m clear through on IPv6 and so that’s how I run everything.
I’m assuming the NAT is your ISP’s, if it’s yours then ignore me.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I measured the idle RAM of 19 self-hosted apps on identical hardware so you can size a VPS without guessingEnglish
11·2 months agoI was gonna say, no way their memory estimate is anywhere near real world for some of those. This feels quite useless because “using the apps will blow past the floor” is some real “draw the rest of the owl”.
Especially since they said this was inspired by beginners not knowing what they can actually run on what, this is gonna get them way underestimating what they need

4·2 months agoEspecially if you go ipv6. I’ve noticed many of my friends and I get new addresses almost never now that I’ve slowly migrated at least our web apps to ipv6.
Does Garuda Linux play “Sandstorm” every time you boot it?
Edit: no wait, crap, it’s Darude isn’t it.

Just need to make sure you look in the science backed audiophile places and not the cable lift snake oil sections

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Expect Steam Machine price hikes soon as Valve admits RAMageddon is only “getting worse”English
83·3 months agoI’m pretty sure the money is real. Nvidia has like 10.6 billion dollars in cash on hand in the bank (down quite a bit because they’ve been giving it out like candy). Apple and Oracle have similarly insane numbers. All these big companies have been hoarding assets for years. The AI companies have been using the very real cash from those hoarding companies in exchange for a share of themself. That’s where it’s made up.
The air quotes around “bought” is valid more because they haven’t actually bought anything, they’ve promised to buy future manufacturing time.

Those sorts of comments show up on occasion. Enough to be a problem
Time to build a small Dyson Sphere.

I’m waiting for the next paycheck but it will be one of very few games I pay full price for (assuming reviews are good, I haven’t looked yet, but it’s Remedy so I’m hopeful)
