3·19 days agoI had looked into GRAV which is not quite suited for blogging (i.e. date-based posts) but rather for wiki-like content or a simple page structure. Also, they’re also feeling more and more enterprisey, especially with their recent 2.x release.
Tried Serendipity but found it to be more or less on life-support.
And finally settled on a very basic WordPress with only a handful of plugins (all set to auto-update), most importantly SQLite and ActivityPub. Backups are a simple copy of all the files or just the SQLite db. The Gutenberg post format in the SQLite db is easy enough to convert it to anything else using a small custom Python script should need be. I don’t remember how I imported my existing posts, though. Might’ve been via RSS import.
On clients you mostly have to set
MODE=netclientin thenut.confand modify theupsmon.confaccording to the manual and detailed manual. By default, it should only shutdown systems when reaching a “low battery” situation, not immediately when switching to battery power.
What was the difficulty with NUT for you? The setup is pretty straightforward, IMHO.

Should be easy to wrap in a container, too.
THIS! Normally, the battery should be accessible via some door or a few screws. Replace the battery for a few bucks and you’ll have 5 more years of peace.
If you search for “12V ups” there are several. However, most only go up to 2 Amps. Not sure what kind of monster router actually needs 5 Amps, though. Also, I believe those 12V UPSes don’t provide status information via USB. So, there’s no way to know when the battery backup is going to fail.
For the real “TV feeling”, try ErsatzTV. It basically creates multiple real-time streams of TV shows and movies from your media library. You can switch between them like channels.
database schema improvements, which is a particularly tricky thing to work on
Not, if you know what you’re doing.
I dont like AI, I wish I could go back to the world before it, but I cant.
You do know that you can use LLMs to get inspiration and suggestions but then still implement those things by hand? Which is also a great way to make sure it doesn’t change something else in the background. Also, if you use Claude like you’ve used StackOverflow and Google before, you don’t even have to mention it as a Co-Author.
Pro-tip: Block the user “claude” on GitHub and it’ll show you a warning for every repository where they forgot to remove the Co-Author tags:

[!NOTE] Upgrading to Paperless-ngx v3 can only be performed from version 2.20.15. If you are running an older version, please upgrade to v2.20.15 before proceeding with the v3 upgrade.

6·3 months agodovecot/dovecot and solr should do the trick. At least they do for me.
EDIT: Two advantages of this setup for me: I can easily drag&drop emails from my other email accounts to this “archive” account in Thunderbird. And once I want to “seal” an archive folder, I can gzip the underlying mbox file and make it read-only (dovecot needs to be configured to store mails in mbox files).
Eh, there’s not really a better/worse between Gitea and ForgeJo. Gitea is targeting business customers, ForgeJo is targeting the open source community.

6·3 months agoYes, I’m using that after a short foray into Pixelfed. And together with @mczachurski@mastodon.social 's Impressia iOS app it’s a really good experience.
You can tune SearXNG results in a similar way. There’s just no easy UI for it.
And yes, it’s often slower than commercially available search engines - but it’s completely free, without trackers, and it’s combining results from various different engines. I can live with that.
Residential IP (runs in a Docker container on a Raspberry Pi 5 here), pretty much vanilla (apart from Marginalia).
Kagi is still $10+tax a month. That’s $120 a year (plus tax).
SearXNG is $0 and a few minutes of my time whenever I tweak the configuration.
No problems with my SearXNG here at all (just have to look into Qwant):

1·7 months agoThere’s also XPenology - a hacked Synology software to run on non-Synology systems. Awesome when you’ve got it running, can be somewhat adventurous and/or nerve-wrecking when a major update is due.

A buddy just shipped a pre-configured Comet Q to their parents.
