There’s a hobby project I’ve been working on for over a year, but now I’m not sure I’m even going to bother to release it because everyone will just assume I vibe coded it in a weekend.

Really old people seem to be the heaviest AI users, or at least they are in my bubble. So maybe pa is getting it on with an AI granny in that retirement home.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•A Head-to-Head Comparison of Windows vs Consoles vs Linux
4·1 month agoIt is official; Netcraft now confirms: Linux is dying
One more crippling bombshell hit the already beleaguered Linux community when IDC confirmed that Linux market share has dropped yet again, now down to less than a fraction of 1 percent of all servers. Coming close on the heels of a recent Netcraft survey which plainly states that Linux has lost more market share, this news serves to reinforce what we’ve known all along. Linux is collapsing in complete disarray, as fittingly exemplified by failing dead last in the recent Sys Admin comprehensive networking test.
You don’t need to be a Kreskin to predict Linux’ future. The hand writing is on the wall: Linux faces a bleak future. In fact there won’t be any future at all for Linux because Linux is dying. Things are looking very bad for Linux. As many of us are already aware, Linux continues to lose market share. Red ink flows like a river of blood.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•The fact that you can’t run through Windows setup w/o internet and an online account is absolute bullshit
7·2 months agoOut of curiosity, what happens if you image the laptop drive and boot it under VirtualBox (keeping the Linux host offline, so the Windows guest can’t phone home)? Potentially useful: https://superuser.com/questions/614400/how-can-i-clone-a-hard-drive-directly-to-a-vdi-image
It’s not about looking it up or not, it’s a challenge to the boasting of the commenter above me in the context of the OP’s post.
Very close! -R, either, -R, -r, -r, -r. I typically think “-R except for ssh-related”, but zip violates that and I’m sure there are plenty of other counterexamples too. On the topic of ssh, I still can’t keep -p or -P straight (ssh vs scp).
With
lsyou can list the contents of directories recursively. Or you can list the contents in reverse order. One of them requires a lowercase “r”, one requires uppercase, but which is which? It’s not such a big deal that different commands have inconsistent syntax, but even having run Linux as my primary OS since 2004, and before that Unix since 1993, I still have to look these up sometimes.
A couple more challenges:
- As an unprivileged user, append multiple lines to a file owned by root, using sudo and a here document.
- Redirect both stdout and stderr to a file using Bourne shell syntax (not bash!)
For recursive behavior, tell me if each of these requires
-ror-R(or either) without looking it up (man page,--help, web, etc):- chown
- cp
- ls
- rsync
- scp
- zip
Comment could have been a :q!

The hypocrisy. Here’s that link https://www.businessinsider.com/cargo-thieves-stole-million-of-data-center-supplies-sheriff-says-2026-6
(I’ll mention though that the Vice article is better because the BI article is paywalled.)

Good point.
