Idk, I’ve tried throwing it on some machines and every time it’s just not worked

Yeah, they can rip your siding or roof off if your house hasn’t been designed for them (and if you live where they usually hit your house should be), and major hurricanes can beat that hurricane proofing. I’ve seen the dry remnants of a hurricane do some pretty nasty damage like that. But yeah it’s mostly flooding that’s the problem where hurricanes tend to be.
Tornadoes on the other hand, are a lot less likely to hit any building in its path, don’t flood (meaning underground shelters are safer), and when they hit your home are a lot more likely to look like a bomb went off

No, tornadoes are localized decimation, hurricanes are much larger but do less targeted damage. I’ve seen houses survive hurricanes, many do. If your house took a direct hit from a tornado without need for massive repairs you consider that your miracle.
Edit: apparently there are light damage tornadoes. The Enhanced Fujita Scale is used to describe tornado intensity in destruction. Ultimately though the point remains, that tornadoes are a lot more likely to do more direct wind damage to whatever they hit

Yeah, but it’s better than being unable to own a house for a lot of people. It’s absolutely not for me, I’m far more inclined towards a townhouse if possible, but I’m an engineer who wants to live in a more urban area.
Houses have gotten ludicrously expensive compared to what people can afford in America. This is partly because housing is seen as an investment and so any policy that reduces housing cost will take a good chunk out of the wealth of a large portion of the population.
But yeah the talks of extending home loans past 30 years is just egregious

Then there’s me who didn’t learn it, I just use it

Yeah that’s the price of a used car
That’s the attention he gets off on. It’s not like he’s coming off as sane and tricking people into agreeing with him. He’s coming off like someone preaching on a street corner who isn’t even facing the right direction.
Just ignore him. If you can’t do that, condescend to him. But yeah he’s getting off on the attention, so don’t feed the troll
Good to know he’s consistent and dedicated. It’s lemmy, we’ve got all sorts of loonies over here, he’s just particularly nuts
Nah we’re just two timing on our partners

Oh absolutely, hell history changes over time, especially distant history, but even stuff like the 18th century western Europe. But also I’m an engineer and want reference texts for when I have to do something for the first time since college or need to throw some random bullshit together and just need to double check something for it

Yeah as an engineer I regret not buying cheap outdated textbooks. Fortunately I have one for the most relevant part of my career, but that’s it

That’s weird. My university library had a copy of every assigned textbook (multiple for large classes). You could borrow it for an hour or two at a time which was great

It really depends on the text. An intro thermodynamics textbook is going to still be fine. And some of my college courses were niche enough that we were using textbooks that were over a decade old. Though nearly 30 is pushing it

Omg I want to pillage it. I used the library for most of my textbooks and regret not also buying a cheap outdated copy. It’s not like the principles of electricity or statics/dynamics were changing anytime in my lifetime
Meh I prefer Windows 9

I daily drove garuda for a few years when I first switched to linux and yep, you summed it up perfectly. Beautiful and cool but too many problems. Eventually broke bad enough I switched to nobara.

Yeah we’re the ones who didn’t use it

It’s firmly mixed though. It’s not like there’s going to be a spot that fails to cure, it’ll just overall cure slower than expected
Well I’m known to be a certified freak in the hard drive
