24·1 month agolaptop simply no longer detects the display
it could be a loose connection or broken wires between the main board and the display panel. it might be worth the effort to open it up and examine those.

that’s what trixie’s netinst defaults to when i set up new desktops using encrypted lvm… root and swap volumes inside that, unlocking together at boot. my use doesn’t hit swap much, so it’s nbd. i just leave it like it is. only where an installer doesn’t support encrypted swap partitions do i use a file or ram-based swap instead.
i remember when gas stations had to fabricate a “1” to put in front when prices first went over $1 per gallon because their price signs didn’t have a ‘dollars’ digit.

8·2 months agoprobably due to the amount of pushback from users getting automatically opted-in with ‘backup’ enabled, and then immediately running out of ‘free’ space… because 5 gigabytes of space isn’t very much at all.
oh, my. that third line is horrendous. that’s what happens when the software (in this case, lemmy’s md to html engine) tries to do the rendering instead of the browser. trying to underline using unicode… and failing, instead of just using css.

turned one on a half hour ago. still waiting for the disk and cpu activity to mellow out.
expected, though. it is a scrap-tier laptop with slow hdd and win11 that is not completely up-to-date.
