And that’s why you go read the arch wiki instead even if you use Hanna Montana Linux.

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Microsoft Announces Big Changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Switches to Monthly Hour LimitsEnglish
6·1 month agoThere are plenty of people saying that cloud gaming is the solution to the GPU and RAM price hikes, like it wasn’t obvious that the increased prices also affected the cloud providers and, more importantly for their management, gave them the perfect moment to enshittify their services.
Edit: two examples from my browser history:

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony say they're not obligated to pass U.S. tariff refunds to consumersEnglish
4·1 month agoHonestly this seems an easy win for them in court, even if it’s a PR nightmare.
Consoles are not essential goods, so if you were willing to pay the inflated price, it doesn’t matter if it was inflated because the manufacturer wanted a bigger margin or because your president is an idiot.
Companies set the prices to maximize profit, so it’s not like the previous price was lower because they love us, it was the price where they thought sales×margins were bigger given the circumstances.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Why does 'Stray' Run Better on Windows?English
37·2 months agoWhile it’s possible for games to have performance regressions in Linux vs Windows that doesn’t seem to be case at all with Stray in general. According to https://www.protondb.com/app/1332010 even the Steam Deck can run it with high graphic.
What’s your Distro, GPU and CPU? It’s possible the exact combo you have isn’t playing well with how the game was implemented.

11·2 months agoIt isn’t. Even though it has an English name it was always based on the Netherlands.

Technology@beehaw.org•ASML stands for Advanced Semiconductor Materials and Laser, and was an American company, so when did it become a French company?English
37·2 months agoASML was never an American company. It started as a joint venture between the Dutch Phillips and the equally Dutch ASM, and when it became an independent company it remained in the Netherlands. Did you know non American companies are also allowed to have English names?
rm -rf /won’t actually do anything in most Linux systems. GNU coreutils’ rm will only remove the root with--no-preserve-root.

24·3 months agoFrom what I know, the AI Assistant is the least of Kent Overstreet’s problems. If anything it’s a blessing he’s fixanting on a random number generator instead of risking becoming Hans Raiser 2.0.
There’s no benefit or drawback on it’s own. The way the keys and queries work are geared to S3’s nature as a key value object store - which requires it to support keys that wouldn’t be valid file paths or that have different delimiters.
Imagine you have
dir1/dir2with “directories” inside, each one with millions of “files”/objects. When you try to “ls” thedir1/dir2by queryingPrefix='dir1/dir2/'andDelimiter='/'S3 will still scan all the millions of objects starting with the prefix, and then filter out the ones that have a/after the prefix.
That’s mostly because it doesn’t have real directories, it just simulates them with string prefixes and if you forget that on large buckets you are going to have a bad time.
Stable? Are you really talking about Windows where every update is a gamble (and increasingly so)?

8·1 year agoMeta got a fine of over a billion euros. Google got a bunch of smaller fines, but it’s probably way above everyone else in terms of fines. Microsoft got half a billion. Even Apple got an 8 million euro fine, but that was more a tap in the wrist to make them think twice about some data collection.
And besides this, large companies are constantly in contact with the authorities and in smaller violations the general policy is to give a warning and let companies stop the illegal data processing voluntarily.
