  • I think this is the right direction.

As someone who has experience both attempting to code my own independent game way before AI and doing new similar projects now using AI tools, I’d suggest 3 or maybe even 6 months of dev time.

Maybe things will change in the near future but right now even the frontier models get a lot of things wrong, bland or just make them sloppy. Correcting them, directing the work towards an appealing style, supervising and such is actually very time consuming if you want to make something good and unique.

I really think how much work time you think someone should put into something before they’re able to share it here is the right question.

For reference, I’ve been working on this project for 9 months now. It’s a shooter that runs on the terminal via ssh. I coded the engine myself with some ai assistance and have closely supervised all ai content. Would love to show more features and such but right now just wanted to give a frame of reference. I plan to release it open source when it’s ready. :)

  • My advice is just start wherever/however your best guess is with the info you have and figure it out along the way.

Starting is the most important thing. Not how to start. Just starting.

When you have experienced the usual newbie pitfalls you’ll be able to know what to ask about more specifically and discover the right communities where these things are discussed, and will know what ppl are talking about.

The second most important thing is persistence.

    Good luck.
