Outlawing it entirely would be best IMO. “Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind”, to quote Dune. Create something like the Geneva convention that makes it a crime against humanity.

481·3 months agoThe one-child policy was abolished in 2015, but birth rates have continued to decline after that. They currently have one of the world’s lowest fertility rates.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Does Anyone Else Skip Processing Vulkan Shaders?English
11·3 months agoUsually not, but for some games it takes ages and I do end up skipping them. For example with Deadlock it took like 30-45 minutes after every update. Started skipping it at some point and never noticed any difference in performance.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Steam Machine not available in my country. What would you do?English
2·3 months agoI’d go for a prebuilt unless you really need that particular form factor. A slightly larger prebuilt with similar specs will not only be slightly cheaper, but also have better performance (due to the Steam Machine being quite limited by thermals and power draw).

Technology@lemmy.world•Poll finds 90% in favour of social media age ban, while advocates urge action for online harmsEnglish
1·4 months agoI think laws could be used to put some stronger responsibilities on the parents. Unfortunately, some of them don’t care whether their children are on social media or what they do on there at all. So when something happens to a child who was too young to join social media, parents would bear some responsibility for that. Guidance is great, but not everyone will take that offer. I’m not in favor of abolishing the minimum drinking age (which is 14 here btw) either.

Technology@lemmy.world•Poll finds 90% in favour of social media age ban, while advocates urge action for online harmsEnglish
3·4 months agoNotably none of the questions they asked were about age verification though. I support a minimum age for social media too, but I don’t support age verification measures.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•On Linux native vulkan games actually beat windows with nvdia gpu (ignore the cat pic, pictures comparison in body of the post)English
1·4 months agoIn many games it does, but I’m not sure this comparison is a good example of that, as it shows persistent CPU stutter on Linux. With those spikes, Windows would be the smoother experience even if the average frametimes are slightly better on Linux.
For one, I think it would be immoral to create an actual intelligence to work for us. With a Human-like intelligence, we’d have to assume that it’s conscious, as we have no way of determining the opposite. We’d essentially create a caste of digital slaves.
That aside, I think the potential for abuse is far greater than any benefits. Making the human mind a replaceable thing, and thus diminishing the value of a human, would be incredibly dangerous. Right now, people in power can’t keep that power without some level of human support. Humans can employ their free will to rise up if need be. Giving that up would not be worth the cheap doctors.
