Had some major problems this last update on mine when the kernel update went through.
Turned out that my motherboard needed an update that was causing incompatibilities.

That’s expensive in today’s economy

Might be your Proton version you’re using. Different versions can sometimes result in different results.
Which Proton versions have you tried?

I notice mine has updates outside of apt, but I’ve wondered if some are just duplicates that haven’t refreshed yet.

I had never seen or heard of anything like this before, but apparently it is possible to do, at least Amazon sells something that matches the description you’re looking for:

If you have access in your region, I’d say go for it and if it doesn’t work, return it if your region has a good Amazon return policy like mine does. Can’t hurt to give it a try if the description matches what you have.
I buy off AliExpress sometimes but I don’t know much about their return policy, hence why I suggested Amazon instead to try it out and return if it doesn’t work.
What plugins do you use? I just switched from Plex and wasn’t aware of plugins.

Try a different proton version. Do you know how to do that or do you need some assistance? Assuming this is being played from Steam using Proton.
In addition to that, play around with the graphics/video settings. Could be related to something like DLSS or frame generation.

If you’re going to spam, at least get the right community, dickhole

Emulation is top notch on it too. I go back and forth playing Steam games and emulated games.
I’ve been replaying a ton of games I played as a kid. Even stuff I was playing as a teen/young adult in the 360 era sometimes works on this thing!
Two tools I have been using to replace TeamViewer that check some of your boxes, but not all are:
Both free and widely used in the community for many of the purposes you’re looking for.
Both operate slightly different from each other. But to give you insight into how I use them:
I use Tailscale as a VPN into my house for stuff like Jellyfin remote viewing on my iPhone or laptop when not at home, SSH/RDP/SMB remote access into my home network and between my devices. I replaced my Docker VPN that was becoming tedious to manage with this and it’s been a lot better and easier to manage.
I use RustDesk for my family and friends who want my help like out of state relatives. It works just like TeamViewer but without the greed or stupid nags or limitations to force you to pay. It just works.
There’s some others like RustDesk others may recommend too. There’s a few others out there I’ve tried, but RustDesk has been great for me.
Haven’t used TeamViewer in over 5 years because of these and other similar services.
