They want to criticize the mascot and, what, replace it with some kinda glyphic anus logo like all the “professional” companies with stupid silicon valley-approved names? LOL what high-ground amirite? 😂

That would be super rad but I don’t think something like that exists yet. (Would be COOL to be wrong though!) The best I would think would be how many headsets let you look through the infrared cams.
I’d guess Steam Frame might be the best bet right now just because it’s Linux-first and open, and I think it offers an upgrade for color passthrough cameras.

“Windows: We broke it for you.”

then if you do fix it a damn update breaks it again!
Just fixed a fairly common issue with Windows Update on my wife’s W11 machine. Stuck at 99% forever. All you need to do is terminate the Windows Update process and try it again, or delete a cache somewhere.
Want Windows’ “official” advice if you’re “having trouble”?
Try reinstalling Windows . 😂 ROFL
Plus the bloat and spyware, ick.
I was also quite unnerved when the “location data” task item came up on startup, and listed Windows Explorer as using it for a second. Sorry what? Wtf does Explorer need location data for?
So happy to go back to OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. I want to convert some family members’ computers too when I finally get a chance for it.

That’s my holdout too! But then Windows forcibly removed support for WMR to paperweight those anyway, so…
What headset do you use? They just ported the Oasis driver to Linux for WMR devices (I have a Sumsung Odyssey+) and I can’t wait to try that!
There’s also the “Envision” project that streamlines getting all the drivers and builds and stuff going for various headset software on Linux. Some have better results than others. :)
Some really good guides here, and there’s also a (hrk 🤢) Discord called “Linux Vr Adventures”
Sounds pretty rad actually if one is packing a halfway decent processor! :) Thanks for enlightening us!
You’re right, I’ve learned to love flatpaks for certain things. The sandboxing can be a little reassuring and I’ll definitely reach for it if I’m getting dependency-hell from a core package and just “Need it to work without spending a weekend on it.” :p
Ah that’s really cool! Sounds a lot more approachable than I thought. I’ve always heard it talked about like a flex distro for after somebody graduates from “installed Arch, no-installer” academy. :p
(Another thing I need to try again. First time failed hahaha.)
That’s actually pretty reassuring! I was under the impression it was a huge flex haha. I’m curious how much practical speed you gain from compiling everything to your specific architecture. 🤔
“As I’ve taken to calling it”
Now I just wanna know whether GNU is Guh-noo or Juh-noo or Gee-en-yoo
Still buffering, give it a minute. It’s gotta squeeze through the tubes.
Honestly as a not-used-Gentoo person recklessly throwing around my opinion on the internet…
It sounds like either it can be “Really optimized and crazy performant if you know what you’re doing.”
Or “It’s a fun hobby because you think operating systems are fun.”
Personally it seems cool except I think I’d start to burn out fast if every package install means having to read compilation instructions and edit configs.
Maybe because my experience compiling stuff is always like “What’s your problem this time?! Okay where do I find that package version?!”
EDIT: I love all the educational, reassuring, and enthusiastic responses. This is what makes Linux cool. :D I should give Gentoo a try…
I like making mine look like “XP if I got to make it do what I want and have things like dark mode.”
I just miss the era :)
Dunno why my first thought was the Psygnosis logo LOL.

Huh. I was thinking r.34 🤔

There is the old adage “Nobody got fired for going with Microsoft”, and it is real.
Unless you’re in game development, or any other industry they invade lol.
Never go with Microsoft to a secondary location. Never get in Microsoft’s car. Don’t even talk to Microsoft.

our IT guys don’t know the first damn thing about Linux.
Well yeah, they went to Microslop school to get Microslop certs so they can work with other people’s Microslop infrastructure and spit out words like “iNdUsTrY sTaNdArD” if you even hint at coloring outside the lines. Lol
Right? OpenSUSE stopped my distrohopping way before I thought I would. I love it.
Ahhh thank you, that makes a lot more sense! I don’t feel too at-risk on my desktop, but if I ever find myself having to take a laptop to like, DEF-CON, then sounds like it’d be pretty essential, along with full-disk-encryption, AppArmor/SElinux, and all those other “wildly inconvenient but more secure” protocols set up.😂 (Lmao that would be terrifying.)
I might try to re-enable it just for the experience. After all, never know when some insane automated malware will hit the 'net that somehow exploits boot like that, and freaks out everyone who said “Nahh that’s not possible.”
I gotta look into this sometime. I’m still doing Z mirrors of 4TB drives. I was lucky to score those.
I have a bunch of 500GB / 1TBs just sitting there though that would need power and a SATA extension, maybe to put non-critical stuff on…
