Isn’t your user data available in Wine on Z:\ though? I laughed at the meme but I’d still be worried info stealer malware or similar would have no problem grabbing the data it’s looking for as Wine does no sandboxing at all.

Lots of good options, but plain ol Fedora with KDE can look great and is reliable, or if you want something more experimental like omarchy then CachyOS would be good.
Restic is a good backup tool with encryption. Cryptomator is awesome but it doesn’t do backups, just storage.

Yes generally around 1TB on cheap plans. That’s a ton of data though for streaming media, if youre moving more than that getting a higher tier VPS would make sense.

It costs a little but a VPS running Pangolin and Crowdsec is a decent replacement for cloudflare for hiding your IP and having some extra protection.

Most VPS are on 1Gbps connections, but even if it only has 100Mbps that’s plenty.

Just a reverse proxy, I was using Caddy, moved to Pangolin because it’s neat.
From what I’ve seen the various Linux OSes for phones are pretty poor for real use, most features missing, unstable, very poor security, and so on.

It supports DDR4 if you buy a motherboard that supports DDR4 too.

I would probably go Intel with iGPU for the transcoding and acceleration for Immich. i3-14100 is fast and cheap.
Otherwise you definitely have far more CPU power than you’ll need for those apps so no worries there.

Have you checked while it’s running all the ML tasks on import? Mine uses a good chunk of RAM while that’s running.

Delta chat seems pretty good, you can easily self host and it’s very lightweight.
I do not recommend matrix, the apps aren’t great, and hosting is a lot to deal with.

True, I don’t know if they already do it, but limiting media streams to 480p like cell providers do on some plans would probably lower congestion a lot. And maybe limiting large file transfers over a certain size to a lower priority and speed.

Are 3d printed guns even a problem? This whole thing is just a way to destroy peoples ability to do anything on their own, or repair anything.

Seems like every other 4x4 has one on the roof, every camper, people even mount them on their motorcycles.

Jellyfin kinda sucks as a music player, it takes so many clicks to navigate and it often sorts music incorrectly, so that’s one reason to use something else.
Yeah, I’m sure some malware would fail on wine but some could still be just as bad compared to running windows natively.
