I backup once a week. I have 3 backups (in 2 locations). Everytime a new one is created, the oldest is deleted. I figured if I need to roll back something, 3 weeks is more than enough to notice.

I’m old and don’t have any identifiable infos in my alerts so I use plain mail messages. If for some reason mail wasn’t a good option, I’d use ntfy

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Recommendations for self hosted recipe managerEnglish
5·18 days agoI’ve been using Grocy, since my main use case is grocery list sharing with my wife. It has recipes as well, and since the DB knows your kitchen, it can display if you’re good to go or need to go shopping for your meal.

31·1 month agoI use freefilesync. You can tailor what is copied where and save it to an executable batch file. If you want to trigger the batch file when your external drive is plugged in you can create a udev rule. Best is you look that up yourself, since it heavily depends on your system (no chatgpt tho!).
Faugus is gaining popularity, but they recently switched from Qt to GTK, so personally I’m now using Vermouth
Started with Mandrake, currently on Cachy

2·3 months agoSo I have the new SD card active and haven’t had any service interruptions in the last 48h. I’m gonna optimistically assume this solved the problem. Thanks again.

1·3 months agoI wasn’t aware of a hardware watchdog, thank you very much for that. It’s now turned on and the new SD card has been active since yesterday without hiccups.

7·3 months agoThank you and u/irmadlad for the suggestion. I ordered a new SD card and will just clone the current one. I’ll probably get to it this weekend and let you know if it worked out.

I don’t host massive amounts of data. Just my contacts, calendars, grocery lists, rss feeds, that kind of stuff. All my pictures and movies are on my PC and backed up separately.
