I dumped Portainer on my home server when they did the ‘Fortnite’ graphical rebranding. Now using Arcane to manage my servers and edge nodes. Very much enjoying the CVE scan tools and in-place image updating.

Not to give too much credit here but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing (although the VBS name is stupid).
GrapheneOS has had Memory Integrity as a mandatory feature for a while now and is part of why they wont support the Pixel 11. Apple Silicone also has this built in and enabled. If anything, Microslop is very late to the party and I have suspicions to why.
See, the only actual issues this causes is that poorly implemented memory alloc/free calls in software no longer fly under this security requirement. Decades of shitty apps (including slop) may crash with security exceptions if they haven’t managed their memory right.

The fact they set the leases out to 2035 cements their lack of interest in fixing anything. For the devs left behind, I cannot imagine the constant demoralising image of another company inhabiting the skeleton of where their friends used to have jobs. This on top of knowing full well that it’s only a matter of time before joining the back of the insurmountable line of laid off developers (and not just in games).
I’m not sure how anyone in AAA stays sane anymore. So many of the people I follow in games have been reduced to beggers just to pay rent.

Which is to say, like ZLUDA, the restrictions have nothing to do with the hardware’s ability to run it. Only NVIDIA’s artificial lockouts and legal threats.

It’s not even a competition thing anymore. It’s corporate ecosystem lock-in and humanity’s aversion to change even if it means staying in the most abusive techno-fascist relationships in recorded history. If the bar of entry to Linux was lowered into the floor with an objectively better experience, people still won’t switch until something forces them to.

“Fight on piracy legal emulation and digital preservation”
Let’s not give credence to their BS excuse for destroying decades of gaming history. Emulators have never been illegal and even Nintendo themselves has repeatedly stolen them for profit.

Nah, I’d make it a slow knife twist. Suspend the publisher and game pending review of “dishonest business practices” with pre-approved refunds. They’d lose their sales window and be forced to explain their actions and still get slapped with the disclosure when the matter is settled (locked this time). Keep that shit public on their permanent Steam record for all to see.

They’ll never make proper linux drivers or affordable hardware but they will absolutely sell you a subscription service to an infinitely shittier experience.
Fuck em. I’ll stream my own DRM free game library to wherever the fuck I want for using FOSS thank you very much.

Unfortunately no. Because of the chip design and proprietary architecture, once the die is made, what it can be used for is set in stone. So if those chips are specific to server architecture or GPUs, they may not work if grafted on to a consumer DDR5 form factor.
All we can hope for is that allocation of NEW stock is released back to consumers, but with the death of manufacturers like Crucial, even that will be an up hill battle.

I wouldn’t give them that much credit. They likely won’t scrap the react native tooling but rather move the compositor deeper into the shell to reduce abstraction performance hits. Their ‘choice’ of removing version numbers seems like more of a PR thing to limit comparisons between versions similar to their ‘last version’ stunt with W10.
Either way, actions speak louder than words and with a track record like MS, those actions have been less than honest in the past.

Windows has sunk so low that a partial fix of a basic file operation that MS repeatedly crippled is supposedly an achievement worth reporting about. The bar is buried in hell and the OS struggles to pass even that.

Sadly not always anymore. Publishers are esuring more and more of the game’s actual content and logic is kept serverside, even if the game is supposedly single player. Bypassing DRM on such games only gets you a lobotomised client shell and is a core argument behind the SKG initiative and general presevation efforts.
I have similar setup on my home server except my Crowdsec & Anubis live in a dockerised VPS proxy that tunnels over WireGuard to the real server behind OPNSense. Saves me a ton not having bandwidth obliterating AI crawlers hit my internet bill. As an added bonus, I can move or shutdown the public VPS entry if things get too ‘spicy’ without any downtime on connections via the VPN.
