I can’t do GNOME. I’ve tried multiple times over the last25 years. I am well past the point where I do heavy wild customizations to KDE etc. Some colored window decorations to make it easier to find the buttons. Change icons and pointers. Monolith MHL in the background. And a little jiggle physics. Some of that GNOME can do, but it will often fight you over it. For myself plasma just has less friction, literally and figuratively. Though to be honest I’m not familiar with the friction coefficient of a gnome.

I’ve heard some say the restrictiveness of GNOME makes them more productive. Poor bastards.

  • It’s certainly a favorite among the goth crowd as well LOL. She had a booth set up a couple weeks ago at the red party in NYC. And she and some of her friends will have a booth set up for dark Forces Fest as well coming up. I don’t know how she manages to do all of them by hand in her tiny apartment. She’s worse about having open counter space than I am and I am horrible.

  • Yes it could be anything. I have an old 6th generation i7 system. That’s more than powerful enough for most things even some reasonable gaming. However currently under arch for instance. Power management is totally possible. But not done automatically. Every time I reboot it sets itself to power save by default. And I just haven’t really been bothered enough to go read up on how to permanently change the default. So what ends up happening is I’ll do a reboot every so often and then all the sudden things are running dramatically slower than they should be. Then I slap myself on the forehead go tweak the power profile and it’s all good again. And it legitimately could be something as simple as that. On a newer ryzen system, the exact same distribution of just the power profiles automatically perfectly. Needless to say if there’s anything remotely CPU bound that will definitely have an impact.

  • Most of our malls in the midwest are decades gone. Replaced with bougie outdoor unbearable shopping complexes. Ones you would never have reason to go to generally. And doubly so during the unbearable heat of summer now.

Here in Kansas City they last corner of Metro-North still stands. Though it’s tenant of the last 50 to 60 years (Macy’s department store) has finally left. And it’s being remodeled into a big box furniture store. Now more than ever I wish we still had places like these. The closest here is Blue Ridge which is over 30 minutes away.

  • The parents who wouldn’t be responsible. Aren’t going to be responsible just because there’s laws. They never have been. And realistically it’s just going to punish otherwise decent ones who due to circumstances beyond their knowledge failed.

Make considerations for child neglect and endangerment charges considering such things when it’s appropriate. That’s workable/palatable. But the state policing basic social interaction is dystopian as fuck and screaming for abuse. No thanks. The state isn’t worthy of that sort of trust in the first place. Not one of them. Leave it to the families and communities, focus on helping them to succeed. It’s cheaper and more effective.

  • I support guidance and recommendation of age groups and time limits etc for guardians to consult. Just as having a drinking age never stopped those under it from drinking. Realistically this will be far less effective but more intrusive and abusive.

Give the guardians the tools, time, and guidance to do their jobs. There’s definitely no legitimate use for laws and legislation restricting it though. The countries that have already passed the laws are already proving it doesn’t work. Why anyone else thinks it will be different or that they can do better is beyond me. Unless of course they don’t think that and it’s never been about that.
