I use advanced heating control and a cheap zigbee thermostat. It’s a pretty good budget solution with a familiar interface for non-nerds in the house.

I remember running a website off a RAM disk for a little while to maximize page speed and game servers. Laptop drives were slower than 5400 and it did give the site a good boost.
Very unstable system though. And so much fun.

I went down that rabbit hole too when I thought it should have been idle. Turned out it was routine data integrity checks and indexing.
Ages ago Synology used to have (maybe still does) a virus scan utility based on clamav (I thiiiiiink) and it only found windows viruses I had in spam emails on my Mac backups.
Update policy?
I see update, I click update!
ROLL DICE BABY!
it does backups… somewhere… I think…

Welp, that’s not the direction I expected my search to take… Learned something new today.

Haha heck no, at least not in my case. It’s not impossible to just stumble on the domain. An infinite monkey sorta thing.

I get frequent login attempts from Google servers too. I got the impression they offer a SaaS service some script kiddie uses to attack home assistant installations.
Make sure passwords are unique and activate incorrect login bans.

For backups, I have my usual local copy, but I also have technologically befuddled parents who I “help” with a server running Pi-hole (and other security), their local backups, and we each host remote backups of each other’s servers. Works pretty well for us.
As for heat, I mostly use low power equipment, but moved some docker containers to a more powerful server that only warms up when accessed.

I lost a raspberry pi for a couple months. Just couldn’t find the darn thing. It was working fine serving away.
Turns out it was in the basement. I forgot I moved it to be closer to my tilt Hydrometer.

If you are already running Home Assistant, nothing changes and there is nothing you need to do. This only affects new installations of Home Assistant OS. Your existing installation is completely unchanged, keeps the exact port it has always used, and keeps working just as before.
Sounds like it’ll work as usual with proxies.

Last I heard the Mac version of word was entirely different code than the Windows program. Different teams too.
But that was a long time ago. Things could have changed especially with the change to subscription/web deployment.

Gotta check that NSFW box if you’re gonna post your chode, bud.

Most of mine are, however plug-in devices also work as repeaters such as my air quality monitor (USB) and smart plugs. I’ve found they really help with dead zones.

Like actual thermometer or temperature sensor?
I have so sooo many temperature sensors in my network. Thermostats ($15) plant moisture sensors ($3-$6 from overseas but battery) my window AC unit apparently has several sensors home assistant picked up, a cheap air quality monitor, temp/relay units, and a smart humidifier.
Seems a waste to build dedicated hardware when cheap options just bundle temp sensors willy-nilly.
I have many, many tabs and dashboards, but here are a few.

I have tons of window sensors tied into my automation and it works mostly as expected. Sometimes it doesn’t trigger on close and reports a window/door open that isn’t or a battery needs swapping. Saved me a few times from heating the outdoors.
