Because power interruptions introduce choas into systems which can cause curruption. Most times nothing will happen and we carry on as usual, but occasionally things will be effected in a way that prevents booting or borks some other item. Nature of the beast.

Fortunately removing/replacing fstab and running fsck fixed it. The pain in the ass part was needing to mount a temporary repair partition/shell so I could diagnose/run commands.
I have a UPS LMAO. Normally it prevents these types of issues but my computer was in standby when the power loss happened and did not like it.
As someone who spent the better part of my afternoon dealing with this nonsense thanks to an unexpected power outage:

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

9·3 months agoYour heart’s in the right place, I appreciate that, but it’s more dangerous during emergency work like this to pass out or make a stupid mistake from skipping a meal. Infection is treatable, death is not. It’s not practical or logistically possible to simply evacuate every time someone needs to eat either. In situations like this they are likely running long shifts with teams swapping out at set intervals. Trust that these are working professionals that have been trained in how to keep themselves safe.

You can use it without learning additional skills, but to truly know what’s going on with any operating system that requires higher knowledge. I’m including windows, mac, android, linux, etc in this. If we could fully understand technology by touching it tech support wouldn’t need to exist. Nor would the insane number of overpriced certifications.
