Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Does it make Sense to switch from dx11 to Vulkan on proton?English
6·1 month agoVulkan should be faster, but only one way to find out is install mangohud and check the performance yourself sometime rarely the games has bad native vulkan implementation and translating from DX to vulkan maybe faster.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Is Linux on a laptop with an Intel Processor + an NVidia GPU still the absolute fucking nightmare it was 10 years ago?English
2·1 month agoYou might wanna look on the used market, I live in a 3rd world country and I can still find RX7700S laptop for 700$ or RX6800M for 770$ but yeah AMD laptops are rare, or you can get Nvidia laptop but you will loss 10-20fps compared to Windows so you really need a sort of beefy Nvidia laptop if you wanna play modern unoptimized AAA games (rtx 3070, rtx4060, rtx5050)

6·2 months agoThat’s what I did, I reluctantly ask Gemini in one last ditch efforts it give me solutions that I already tried but then it mentioned SteamDeck=0 which is a command I never know existed, I almost cry thinking that I have to switch back Windows again if the issue still persisted, I mean I scour the depths of abyss of Linux fourms tried probably 10 differents distros and install years of Linux kernel versions and today is my last day trying to fix it if I can’t I probably going back to Windows which thankfully I don’t have to.

32·3 months agoFor me vanilla Arch is the easiest to use and diagnosed, I tried the switch to other distros when the malwares fiasco broke out but I feel like I’m using Linux for the first time again, I can’t understand anything about the os I’m using what command I have to use to install softwares after figured it out half of my software is not in the repo so I have to compile it like a cave man and don’t get me started on where are all of my config files is.

MO2 is better if I need to config the mod files and open/close the game a lot, so I don’t have to wait 30s for proton wake up every time
