  • Super easy to compete with steam on your own game store.

You can buy your games here, for the same price you can buy the physical disk. It’s the same game you would get if you bought it anywhere else. We guarantee your games will be here forever, and if they aren’t, then we’ll make them playable offline before we shutdown.

Nothing else needs to be done. You don’t need to make your games unplayable from other vendors, you don’t need to add specific rewards for using your storefront. All people want to do, is buy their games, and have a right to play them.

Hence the meme where every digital storefront is shooting themselves in the face while steam looks on with concern.

  • Reliability

LOL, no. Win 11 had 3 major update issues this year alone.

    snap layouts

99% of people just used left and right, which was already in 10, and you could already access other layouts in 10, there was just a different interface for it.

    widgets

You’re fucking joking right? Widgets have been in windows since Vista, and no one liked them back then either.

    improved file explorer,

Improved by turning it into an elecron app? Improved by drastically increasing the ram usage and hobbling the search performance? Improved by unpinning it from the taskbar? The new file explorer is fucking garbage, and is easily one of the dumbest and worst things about 11, right behind the new printer management UI.

    really awesome phone integration environment.

You are genuinely the first person I’ve heard mention this, and you’ll probably be the last.

Add on top of that constant updates and upgrades and it isn’t even a close comparison.

See issue number 1, also, the updates only ended because Microsoft declined to continue supporting “the last version of Windows”.

You are right that the comparison isn’t even close. 8 and 7 were closer in terms of performance and market adoption than 11 and 10.

  • Installing and using Mint is easier than about half of the things you’ve already “fixed” on Windows. You definitely can manage switching. If you can, backup your data on a separate drive and install Mint. If you don’t have a spare SSD (or a few dozen), you can always put Mint on a USB, boot from that, and test it out without modifying your windows operating system.

But, I switched to mint “just to test it” and I’ve only gone back to windows once, and that was to migrate the data from my expensive Samsung SSD to the bargain bin SSD I bought for testing Mint in the first place.

Honestly, Mint has been so easy, I switched my mom’s new laptop to Mint, and she vastly prefers it to Windows 11, and I haven’t needed to touch her computer since then.

  • Of all the big corpus, m$ is the one that pisses me off the most.

I mean, at least Microsoft produces stuff. Equifax collected all your personal data without your consent and sold access to it. Then they got hacked and leaked the personal data of literally every single adult in the US… And the punishment for that? They got a 7 million dollar contract from the government and were allowed to go back to doing business as usual. You got a few months of “Free identity protection” and then they started auto-billing you for continued protection.

An actual punishment would have been to seizing all their assets, scrub the data off their hardware, send the CEO a bill for the data destruction service, then auction off all the assets and put that money into a fund dedicated to identifying and prosecuting identity theft, and making sure the other two credit reporting agencies stay up to date on their security.
