I don’t know what this is about, but I’ve seen the madthumbs posts and been blocked for correcting information.

The only negative is with the case installed, you don’t know if it is powering on when you hit the button, because there is no fan noise or HDD noise (I used SSDs). So you have to peek in the top vent to see if mobo lights flicker. 😀

Technology@beehaw.org•Meta may use sweeping new commercial TOS to avoid millions in AI licensing fees
3·17 hours agoWe already see the effect with google. People get AI answers (gleaned from a website) and the website never sees the traffic, nor gets to connect with that user. I think google mentioned paying website owners as a method of keeping websites afloat since not traffic to a website means no sales for the company.
See if you can find a Monsterlabo case. They went out of business, but their fanless cases are all heatsink so zero noise.
I picked up the itx model and overspecd the power supply so that the power supply fan never turns on either.

40 watts normal up to 60 watts. That includes modem and router. PC is fanless system.
I figured you meant the coworker, but its something I think any AI user should be aware of, especially just using a public web browser version where they definetly will store you data and could leak private info.
I don’t use it often enough to have stats, but I did notice large differences between public AI models.
I had an odd Secure Linux permission issue after an update so I figure WTH let’s try AI debugging.
I pasted same info into Chatgpt and Googles AI. One suggested a bunch of debug steps which made sense, but it talked ahead of itself. It would say check this, then do this, then this (assuming you had answered a Y/N scenario for step 1 already. So it was a complicated interaction, because it gets your response, formulates new plans, but assumes you also completed step 2 and 3 from before. It led itself around in circles with pages and pages of suggestions. Even though none of the steps were poor choices, they made logical sense, it just couldn’t sort it out.
The other one took my paste, asked one question, and gave me the solution. The update had stripped the SELinux rule off the file and become an undefined default.
Well i was careful and used a private LLM, and didn’t include any customer specific info just in case.
I threw about 10 short phrased meeting notes (4-5 words each) into an LLM to get some document formatting started with titles and sections etc. It built a full scope document and inferred a ton of information about the project and product. It was surprising how much it could infer, and suggested very sensible testing criteria and alternate solutions should the main product path not pan out.
I can see why people start believing it “thinks”, because it was remarkable what it “understood” about a vague new product. Had I sent the info out to stake holders, they would have assumed this person was a key team member that was involved from day 1.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•if you're waiting to buy a computer, do it soon. prices are going to skyrocket (again) in 2027 and 2028. especially ram. i've linked to some of my sources in the post.English

Yeah when people say they can’t get a podcast because its not on the apple served list. umm RSS exists and did before apple brainwashed people.
And it all makes the experience worse.
I’ve installed Debian on a 16 year old iomega nas drive single board arm system. Special drive format, with blanking the first 32 bytes with zeros for a weird boot process. Installed OpenMediaVault on top of that.
I don’t know how any of it works, I just search the web and cobble stuff together.
What’s the underlying filesystem on a nextcloud server? ZFS? Or something else.
This. My ups died after 10 years powering router and network. A replacement was $300 (for similar model) but the batteries were only $80. Just had to untape the pack and plastic adapter and transfer it over to the new battery set
Its like the Gnome extension not available for your version, so you just edit the file to have your version in its list. Usually works
I prefer classifaction in descending order… Narrow down the yearx then the month then the day then the hour then the seconds. Absolutely nobody wants seconds first then minutes

Someone said he’s mad because is GF left him for a Linux dev. I don’t know if that is true, but it is definitely the scorned child-likebehaviours he exhibits
