I’ve been looking for a non-web based Minecraft skin editor and have only found MCSkin3d which was last updated 8 years ago. It did work for my needs but when I used it I was on Windows but I switched over to Linux so I had to use Wine to still use it. It works fine on Wine but I was wondering if there could be one native to Linux. All I can find are web-based ones and most aren’t open source either. Funny enough, I found out MCSkin3d is open source but again, not touched in years. If I did have the technical know how, I would love to make a Linux port of it and maybe modernize it a bit.
Does anyone know of one? If not, I guess I better start learning how to code a Linux native version of MCSkin3d.
Blockbench can be used for skins. I don’t remember how to do it since I only really use the modelling part, so you’ll have to look it up yourself.
It runs on Electron though. Idk if that counts as web-based for you (it’s definitely non-native)
Thx for the recommendation. I tried it out just to see and I didn’t know it could do skins. Though, for some reason my installations mouse controls just refused to work. I could zoom in and draw but not pan or rotate. I got the Flathub version so maybe that’s why.
I use the Flatpak, and it works totally fine for me. I also think Blockbench is the best skin editor software out there at the moment.
Depending on how fast you want to see the preview, using GIMP or other pixel editing software for the skin png directly can also work.
Hmmm, maybe I should try it the old school way. Just need a 3d viewer to see if it would look good folded back into shape.
