That observation is common but provably false. You can talk to millions of people around the world who genuinely want or own a small house because it simplifies their life. That’s reality.

Obviously many people want 2000 square foot mansions. Especially in North America. But many others do not.

The interesting question is how big or small is good… For example, if you were living alone, would you want 750 square feet? 1000 square feet? Larger? And if so, what the fuck would you do with all the extra rooms? … Seriously, I have no idea what I would do with more than one guest room. For me, kitchen + living room + 2 bedrooms is more than enough, and it’s not like the bedrooms need to be very big.

Does anyone believe him? We know he would get fired if he said anything else.

This is not a headline. Get a real article. Seriously, fucked up CEOs can have any opinions they want, and it’s not interesting or relevant to us.

Web search was the last big innovative thing they did. The other good shit since was bought up, lol, easier to buy than innovative. Capitalists hate competing because they might lose.

Of course it’s fine to point out hypocrisy, but more importantly, these billionaires (all billionaires) are really fucked up people. Their brains are not OK. They have horrible values. They are happy that people starve and die every day, because that makes them richer. Don’t think that copying them will get you anywhere good.

(Of course you still might want to shield your kid from shitty products. But don’t do it because Thiel does.)

Right. You don’t get it. You hear people talk about a new technology but actually they haven’t talked about anything, they are trying to sell you snake oil, but you convince yourself that you understand what they mean, and that it’s somehow meaningful.

We could talk about the history of AI in software development, you know it goes back decades, and there are legitimate areas of research. But the bubble that people are riding right now, they are throwing LLMs at the general public and pretending those LLMs are good enough to replace large swaths of the current workforce, but that’s not going to happen because it won’t work, because that’s not how those models are designed. And then the snake oil salesman, they do classic bait and switch, and they start talking about expert systems and minor improvements to them, as if that is something new.

But even if my prediction is wrong, what that actually means is that people shouldn’t need to work full-time jobs anymore.

To be fair, if your argument is that some day AI research will be legitimate and no longer snake oil, then you could easily be right. But there’s no good reason to think that day is going to be in the next few years, rather than the next few decades or even the next few centuries.
